Images disappeared after attempting to move images to the new document storage

Last night I was exploring ways to improve the speed of my website and one of the options recommended was to move images to the new document storage system by Prestashop, under preferences, images.

after approx. 30 seconds I received an internal server error so I left to see if anything happened but there seemed to be no change.

 

Today when playing on the site all my product images now show as error with no file attached, I have tried uploading a new picture to an item and it works. Is there any way I can fix this without having to go through each item and uploading a new picture.

 

And once fixed can anyone provide any advice on using this document storage system?

If you have a back up I would 1st suggest loading the sql database back up 1st then if that doesn't fix the images load the other file as well from your cpanel that is.
