Switch on Tax for my carrier module

I have created a couple of carrier modules and am struggling to have them calculate tax. I have enabled it in the back office, but the module is still showing the ex-tax price.

 

Is there something i need to code into the module to fix this?

A-ha - I think i've found the reason it isn't working, but I have no idea how to fix it!

 

If a customer is checking out AS A GUEST, there is no tax on the shipping. As soon as they fill in their details, the tax is then applied.

 

Is there any way to force the system to add the tax by default and then take it off if the customer's country allows it??

Well, I don't know why but tax is now working!

 

I created a product that should have VAT on it and it too was displayed at the excluding VAT price. I then trawled through everything tax related in the backend and ticked "ecotax" without knowing what it would do...

 

Now all my products with tax are shown with tax. My delivery charges now have tax on them (as it should be) and the ecotax option has switched itself off! Not sure what's happened... I will try a fresh install and see if I can duplicate the problem.
