mewm
Hello. I have a question for you.I work in a small company that sells websites etc. We have a shop, but it is poor coded, so i went out and stompled on this one. But i'm still figuring wether this OSL allows me to sell copies of Prestashop, because then i can integrate it with our CM System. But am i allowed to do so? Or what do we "need" to be allowed to do so?
first1
why would you want to see something that you dont own?
Stu583
Hmm so what you propose to do is take an open source and free software, disguise it as you own (I assume by doing nothing apart from removing all reference to prestashop) and then sell it on!!!!Never mind what the OSL says just how many morals would this break in your mind? These guys work their socks off to provide such a good software for you to come round and sell it on without really doing much with it!
first1
well said Emmerellas!!!!People work hard to provide and some others wants to take it on a golden plate yet make money out of it
San Diego
the point is very easyopen source is not to be sold, if you make money by selling the software you are a thief in my eyesif you sell themes you created or modules you built you are free to do so.if you use presta for your webspace selling without extra price you should give the presta guyssome donation for making it possible for you to provide a good software to your customerswhich for sure than not come to you because your webspace is better than an other onethey come because of presta.i´m wondering that you need to ask this. which corner of the world are you from.sd
mewm
I appriciate your answers, allthough, your tone is very harsh i think. I never intended to just take prestashop and sell it like just that. What i was planning to do is to build our CMS into prestashop and then sell the CMS along with the setup of prestahop.I never intended to sell Prestashop as it was my own creation. I'm not planning to make it look like it's "our" system, and i'm not planning to remove prestashop logo or anything.
San Diego
But i’m still figuring wether this OSL allows me to sell copies of Prestashop, that is what you wrote and this is clear englishno way to misunderstand itit is like my little daughter, she says also daddy i didn´t mean what i said i ment it different than i said ityou totally misunderstood me.sd
mewm
San Diego, yes offcourse. But if i sell my CMS with Prestashop in it, then it is like "copy of prestashop". It was just to make my question clear, that i did put it up that way.
VIXUS
I guess that you can make some bundle like:If you buy our CMS we install you free copy of PrestaShop.(honest thing to to would be to contribute with some ammount of $ to prestateam)Further customisation of shop on customer demand you can normaly charge i guess, no? Not entirely true, because, according to the OSL i'm not allowed to "sell the name", to use the name in any form of sale.

mewm
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/osl-3.0.phpthis are the license restrictions for presta you find them in the wikisd I read it. Allthough, some of it are very technical language, which i find hard to understand completely. That's kind of the reason i started this thread.
