Editing themes and modules

Hi,

 

I'm completely new to prestashop, and have no history using Smarty, I have thorough knowledge of html, css and php.

 

I'm trying to edit the default prestashop theme, which I'm managing. But I also want to edit the modules, I have seen that you can have custom modules in a themes folder, but do not know how to tell prestashop that I have moved the files from the modules file to the themes file. The reason I want to move them is because I want to be able to update prestashop without worrying about them being overwritten.

There may well be another (quicker) method, but I would back up my customised files to a local directory, update Prestashop and then load your backed up files into the new update. You can also create another folder on your server and move them there. I use Filezilla which is pretty straightforward.

 

I shall be upgrading to 1.5 shortly and shall be in the same position as you!
