Installing on temporary domain/folder

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My actual-old eshop is running in an asp server, and I want to transfer it to prestashop to a new hosting company. All of them thought, at the registration process ask for a domain name, which I can provide but I cannot transfer or change DNS yet.

During the automatic installation (p.e. softaculous), the installation completes successfully, but neither the backend nor the site is visible.

The answer of the hosting support (great staff indeed) was this

Some applications are very attached to their base url, prestashop being one of them.

To set it up on a temporary url, it will need to actually be setup ON that url. changing a sites url normally involves edits to configuration files, but can sometimes involve database edits to function properly.

Unfortunately, we have no control over how an application like prestashop configures itself, an can only assistance in working around such issues.

I usually recommend setting up a subdomain to develop a site on, then modifying the configuration and copying it over to the actual url (even if temporarily) to make sure it functions properly in such a situation.

If this is not an option, then I would need to rely on suggestions from you or your developers for other solutions in regards to prestashop, as most applications are much easier to move.

To you know the procedure, so I can set up the new site, and to transfer the DNS later?

Thanks for any advice
