When do I need to regenerate thumbnails?

As per title, when do I need to regenerate thumbnails e.g. when I change the quality of images, when I add a new image size etc.?

in my version 1.5.1 , there is option to regenerate it in the preferences/images . i forget in the previous version there is same or not

You only need to regenerate the images when you want to alter the image sizes on the front-end.

 

This has always been a function on every Prestashop version.

Could you be a little more detailed please?

e.g. in case I wish to change the size of "home" images (which appear on my homepage) to 150x150 (from 129x129 by default), I would need to regenerate thumbnails, right?

 

How about changing the quality of PNG image from 7 to 9?

How about adding a new image size "home_big" of 300x300?

 

I'm using Prestashop 1.4.8.2 btw.

Changing image sizes and adding new images need regenerating images. Not too sure about png quality, never used them so not too sure.
