Uploading through ftp

Hi everyone,

 

It's a typicall beginner question so please bare with me.

 

I've got my prestashop folder whose css has been coded by a friend of mine for our small online shop.

 

Normally as I've understood it, the final folder simply has to be uploaded onto the server under "/" to be online.

 

The problem is that once onto the server the site doesn't appear. I know the problem lies with my beginner's skills.

 

 

Is there maybe a proper tutorial/walkthrough which I can follow to make sure the site is properly uploaded ?
