El Patron
Create a subdomain of your shop domain, this will be your test shop. · ftp you production site and mysql data to new test shop · make sure that the test shop is running like production · back up your test shop files and mysql data · now practice your cutovers on the test shop · then you will know what to do to upgrade your production shop. The ps forum is a great place to get help for this setup
benjamin utterback
Hello peranders, I like to recommend first copying your database and files to a test subdomain. You then can perform the upgrade on the test or "dummy" subdomain so you can see before hand if you run into any problems. There won't be any downtime on your website. peranders
OK, lets say I have made a complete duplicate of the shop, should I replace the PS files, upload the new package and then use the copied database? Then when I see it works make the same thing on the sharp shop?

Burhan BVK
Use phpmyadmin to download a backup of your database Use ftp to download all your prestashop files. Then you can try updating directly on the shop. You should keep the database and the files backup for a few weeks just in case. If the update fails: -Delete your database and import the database backup you downloaded -Delete the failed Prestashop files and upload the older ones -Change the file permissions for the smarty directories, modules folder/subfolders, img etc.
peranders
Normally I upload the zip file and let the webserver unzip because it's 100 times faster. Is all my stuff in the database, even the pictures? Can I upload and unpack and use my present database? Is there anything I should save in my old files?
