Adding php to order-confirmation.php

I've added some php code to /order-confirmation.php, but I'm concerned that it may get overwritten in any upgrades and want to place the code elsewhere.

Is using :

{php}

include('myfile.php');

{/php}

in /themes/mytheme/order-confirmation.tpl

an accepted/suitable way of doing it or is there a better way?
