512M
I'm using 1.5 and notice now that i have SEO furls activated, some pages end with .html and others do not. Would anyone know what this is or how i can standardise all the url's to include .html at the end?
ébewè
If you're using 1.5, simply go to "Preferences > SEO & URLS". There, you will be able to configure all your urls : products, categories, manufacturers, suppliers... By clicking the save button after modifying your urls, your .htaccess file will be modified. Maybe you'll have to delete this .htaccess file for those changes to be made.
512M
Sure, that's what i've done. And now that friendly url's are working and appearing in the address bar, i notice some of the friendly url's end in .html and others do not. I can't find what settings control the extension of url's..
ébewè
Do you have examples ?
512M
Yes, in the default template, there's 3 product categories listed in the left side block- ipods, accessories and laptops. Clicking on any of them show up in the address bar as- domain.com/3-music-ipods (without .html at the end) If i then click on the ipod product for example, the url then reads- domain.com/music-ipods/1-ipod-nano.html
ébewè
It's the default url rewritting rule Categories pages don't have .html, and products pages do. If you want to change that you must change it on the "Preferences > SEO & URLS" page and delete the .html in the following input :
512M
Ok, i thought it may be the case that product pages displayed .html and categories didn't. I can't see your screen shot but i'm guessing it's the first field in "prefernces > SEO & URLS" under "schema of urls" ("route to products"). I removed the .html in that field, but now the pages on the site return a 404 not found message. However, i don't want to remove it, i want all pages to display .html in the address bar. Is this possible
ébewè
So, you must add .html at the end of all fields under "schema of urls" Then you must delete your .htaccess file at the root or your shop. Finally click "Save". A new .htaccess file will be created and this will solve the 404 errors.
512M
Thanks a lot, i did the first step you mention, by adding .html to all fields but nothing happened front end of site. Now i will try again but delete .htaccess before i hit save. i'll let you know if works Ok..
512M
Ok, i tried it again, this time deletiing the .htaccess before hitting save as you suggested, but no change. For some reason it won't pick up those .html extensions on category and other pages.
