Many have critical problems with 1-Click Upgrade! - what is the response?

Recommended Posts

Well, the forums are filled with topics and comments from people having serious problems with the 1-Click Upgrade.

Personally we have not been able to upgrade from 1.4.8.2 either due to Javascript UpgradeNow error. Even tried to update the 1-Click Upgrade module to latest V0.8.1 without any difference.

There seem to be no official response to all these problems for several months now. So what to expect?

If Prestashop had a Backup/Export function for customers, products, orders etc. it would give people more options to do a fresh install and added safety.

Right now Prestashop has become a game of Russian Roulette, where you will have absolutely no clue if your business will be destroyed by doing an upgrade....

Same here...tried to upgrade with the 1 click upgrade - failed....just seemed to get stuck (12 hours later) and left me without even access to the back office - shop offline for 12 hours while I restored a back up! I daren't try again for fear of the same thng happening. So it seems I will have to stay on 1.4 as no solution seems to be forthcoming, except the - "pay me, I'll do it for you!" offers!

I have never been able to upgrade using the auto upgrade or 1-click upgrade.

But I have to say reading your posts, why on earth would you risk destroying your business doing the upgrade on your current live store. You should never upgrade your current site directly.

The forums are full of warnings about the risk you take doing this. Just simply duplicate all the folders/files of your site into a subfolder and make a copy of your database. Your database will need a different name to the original as well as a new username and password. Adjust your settings.inc.php file in the copied site /config folder to reflect the duplicate store directory and the copied database name/username/password and location.

Once you have the duplicate store running, which shouldn't take very long at all, use the 1-click upgrade on the duplicate site.

If the upgrade works then remove your current site, replacing it with the duplicate. If the upgrade does not work and screws up the duplicate site, nothing is lost other than a bit of time and your business remains intact.

There is no reason to risk losing anything.
