Add to cart query, remove title but send reference?

Hey everyone

 

wondering if its possible that once you have uploaded your products to the shop, is there any way that when you click 'add to cart' for any product, is there a way of getting the cart to send the reference or supplier reference only to the cart rather than the name attribute??

 

eg from backend interface from catalog adding product:

 

Name: = the 'name' is what appears in the shopping cart

Reference: = i want the add to cart button to remove the 'name' attribute and replace it with the 'reference' attribute instead

Supplier Reference:

EAN13 or JAN:

 

Is any of this possible and if so, how??
