How to make a Block "Shop by Brand" and "Filter by Brand"

Hi All,

I see the block like that on a website. I think it is a very good ideal. On the top, it have block "Shop by Brand" help the viewers see all product of the shop for that brand, but the "Filter by Brand" help the viewers will see all product of that bran in the sub category, in this case is: Mens clothing. Anybody have any ideal to make this block?

Actualy the Brand and the Manufactuary is the same. I get the code from the file product-sort.tpl and edit to change become brand-filter.tpl to make the Filter by Brand/Manufactory block. But the result not as I expected. Some thing wrong. Please help me.
