Database Backup will not work

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! here is a better solution to back up your Prestashop database or databases if you have more than one store... just log in to your c-panel if you are hosted in bluehost and scroll down to Databases section and click on the link "phpMyAdmin" which will open your database SQL page -- you log in there with the username and password of the corresponding databse of the prestashop you are about to backup--- once you have logged in on the left pannel or column just click the name of the database you are going to back-up and once it appears click on the "EXPORT" tab on top navigation and just click Go and a pop up window will appera to save your database on local computer and save it for example in this format so you can have an organized dated file backup folder of your databases:

ei. september_20_2012_prestashop_webstore_"your store name here"_"database name here" _PS15_0_17=01.sql

if you are backing up maybe 2 or 3 or 4 times a day just save in the save format and change only the last "01" to "02", "03", "04", and so on. Also if yoy back up let's say in the morning and make an update/upgrade to the Prestashop Vesion keep the same format when saving the sql file but since its new version of PS just change the "PS15_0_17" version to the new one as "PS15_1"

These steps are safer than those of backing up from your prestashop back Office which often give errors due to your configuration/settings of themes and modules...

With phpMy Admin you can always Drop databases and import back again from your already done backups when a disaster happen with your store mostly after an upgrade... Caution! make sure you also have a backup of your PrestaShop Folder with the most recently working store in more than one hard-drive/pc to recover your webstore quick.

I hope this can help you a bit and for those who already know this "Cheers! Keep Up the good work with the Amazing PrestaShop!
