[SOLVED] Insurance Module Needed (% based)

Hi,

 

I need to add an insurance option during check-out which allows the customer to view the insurance value and add it to his order during check-out. It must be percentage based (not a fixed value) so let's say the insurance is 3% then the insurance amount would be 3% of the total order amount.

 

An example of what I need;

 

Product Cost - 80.00$

Shipping costs - 20.00$

******************************

Sub-Total = 100.00$

 

Insurance = 3.00$

*****************************

TOTAL = 103.00$

 

 

Please let me know if you have a ready made module that meets my requirements or if you're able to develop one and how much it'll cost and how long to be ready/developed?

Forgot to mention, current PS version is 1.4.6.2

This can be done though the requirements at this point sound inadequate to completely create a module. Currently we have two options that can be extended to "accomodate" this extra charges - one would be additional shipping costs for products and the other would be additional shipping for the carrier. - you can translate this additional shipping costs to insurance or other charges and let the customer know the additional costs covers insurance. - This may just be an option but for a perfect solution then a module for that would be the best way forward as suggested above.

Hi Guilherme,

 

No I didn't, seems that no one could make it work the way I wanted it. Received some suggestions to add the insurance as an optional attribute which is not the solution I want to use. If you do come across a solution and preferably a ready made module then please do share as I'll definitely be interested.

I'm curious why you would charge insurance against the shipping cost?

 

So let me run through my understanding and a possible solution

  1. Customer adds products to their cart
  2. Customer decides to checkout
  3. During checkout, the customer is presented with a checkbox (unchecked by default?).  There is some language that says something to the effect "insure your order for x.xx"
  4. The customer can selected the checkbox and continue to checkout.
  5. If customer selected the checkbox, then the insurance amount would be applied to the total order amount

Questions

  1. Is the amount applied before or after tax?  before or after discounts?
  2. This would apply to all orders no matter what products are added to the cart?

If you can resolve all of your requirements and state your expectations, I can create and sell the module.

As a customer myself, I want the option that if the parcel is lost that the full amount of what I paid (product and shipping of course) be covered. Why would I settle for only having the value of the product itself covered? Most of our customers agree with this, they prefer to have the FULL amount of what they paid covered and insured.

 

I trust you'll see the logic in covering the full amount and not just the product cost, right?

 

 

In reply to your questions:

- The final and total amount which the customer pays needs to be covered therefore, after tax and discounts.

 

- This would apply to all orders no matter what products are added to the cart?

- Yes, expect for virtual products

So we would only consider physical goods?  So we would take the total order amount, and subtract the cost of any virtual products in the cart?

 

I'm not certain at what the cost would be yet.  I'm just trying to make sure I understand the requirements from the community.  In this scenario, if there is enough demand for this type of functionality, I would develop the module and then just resell it at some pre-determined price.  My modules usually run between $25 and $100, so you can expect it in that range.

However, can you confirm that it is v1.6.0.6 compatible? Also, can you do some customizing? I am looking to add a fade box that appears if the customer doesn't accept insurance - the fade box will have information about parcel delivery without insurance.
