What should I look out for upgrading my server?

Hello everyone,

 

I must ask what should I be looking out for or things I need to do before hand upgrading my server with my host. I definitely know to do full back ups but can others please tell me their exp. regarding this and issues I should be aware of.

 

I know my host is awesome and they go to the back to always help but just wanted some extra input before proceeding from a VPS to a dedicated server.
