Personal Info content disappeared

Hi, I wanted to remove the "Receive special offers from our partners" checkbox in the registration and personal info sections of my site. Following the advice in several posts like this one:

I edited my authentication.tpl, identity.tpl, and order-opc-new-account.tpl in my theme's directory, and then emptied my /tools/smarty/compile and /cache folders (except for index.php).

 

Now the "My personal info" section of "My account" is BLANK! All the other sections are unchanged ("My orders", "My addresses", etc), but there's just nothing in "My personal info". The sidebar and header are still there, just no content, where before there was everything, plus the extra "special offers" line I didn't want.

 

What have I done?! All I deleted were the appropriate lines and the compile and cache files.
