I don't even have a header.

Recommended Posts

I got my download, finally. I have installed prestashop. I am able to select modules and some of them actually appear. Most of my page is blank, really. I know something is wrong so I began reading

http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS14/Browsing+the+front-office

Well, I don't even have a header!

I checked the file sizes of all the pages of the theme on my server, and they do correspond to the file sizes on my machine. Is there some sort of chmodding I have to do? The files are 644 and the folders are 755.

I'm certain I am missing something very simple. Please give me some basic pointers on how to get the default template to show properly.

By the way, my install was without all the product stuff, but some images slipped through anyway. I was able to delete those successfully.

Thanks for answering, Marty. I took your advice and deleted everything. I downloaded a fresh zip file and went through the entire process of installing PS again. Same story. Back office works great; front office has my logo and one thin gray line and nothing else.

I need help.

Webhost says it's a Prestashop issue. But of course they would. I am at your mercy. Please help, someone.

The only thing else I know to do is sit around and wait for the next version and try it and see if it will install.

Question: is that memcached / memcached (?) thingy a deal-breaker? What is it and why do I need it, if I do.

Hi

If I understood you choose Simple mode in Installation type. That is way you only see logo.

So you need to enter categories, products, carriers and lot more stuff.

Also you need to install modules.

If you are new to Prestashop I really suggest to choose Full install with modules and demo products.

Then see how is all working, and what modules you need.

To explain a little better: I was using Web Hosting Hub. They can't support Prestashop. I suppose I should have known that they don't have memcache / memcached, but I didn't, and that's probably because I don't even know what it is. Regardless, they don't have it, so don't anybody waste their time with that outfit.

They really did seem to have good tech support in the beginning, but once it became apparent that they were of no use to me and I started saying, "refund," suddenly everyone is "not available." At this point, I couldn't recommend them to host a grocery list.

Anyway, I will get some hosting that works, and I will be using prestashop.

I'm looking at bluehost. They are the one company that I have found for sure will handle Prestashop. At least that's what prestashop.com says, and of course what bluehost.com says. I wish I felt better about all of this.

Right now, Web Hosting Hub is holding my domain name hostage.

In many ways, this is a stressful time. Hope everyone else is having a good day.

Thanks again, Marty.

Web Hosting Hub will take your money for private registration of your domain name, but when they release your domain name rights to you, the privacy disappears as does the money. They keep that, and they pawn you off onto some Australian site to gather your rights again. So, you're out that money, and now you have to pay AUS money to get some privacy.

Maybe this is the way all hosting companies ... oops almost typed hosing because I do feel very hosed ... maybe this is the way all hosing companies operate.

What I have learned:

1)Never fall for the free domain name registration gambit. Just register the domain name yourself and pay for the privacy then and there.

2)Never deal with Web Hosting Hub webhostinghub.com or their sister In Motion Hosting inmotionhosting.com

3)Don't start out making a list if you only have two bits to share.

my two bits,

estefana
