restricting a module to a specific page

Hello

 

I tried adding this query to an existing topic but no-one replied so i'm starting again, sorry.

 

The post suggested that editing the module's php file at the $page_name point will dictate page but i can't find this in the code. I'm essentially trying to add the frontpage categories (homepagecategories) module to a custom page i've created and only that page.

 

I've looked for reference at the other page restricted modules i.e. my slider carousel and homefeatured.php and neither reference $page_name. In fact i can't work out how they're being restricted at all. Def just me being thick but i'd really appreciate some help...
