Melander
Hi everyone, I'm a Joomla (novice, intermediate) user and thought about switching over to Prestashop for my e-commerce business. I would like to know why Prestashop is a better choice (everything is subjective I know..) then other platforms such as Joomla, Wordpress etc when it comes to e-commerce. Is it as easy to work with and modify? Are the themes better looking and work better in general? Would love some feedback from you people that have the experience that im lacking from PS! Thanks in advance /Melander
benjamin utterback
PrestaShop is the best E-Commerce Solution. We have won consecutive Awards for Best Open Source Business Application and there are many reasons for this. As far as is it easy to work with and modify, what sets us apart is the fact that we don't have to answer that question. You can download and use it today for free. We are not simply a CMS, we are a whole E-Commerce Platform. We also have the largest community in the E-commerce world. Try us out today and let me know how you like it. I do not think there is much of a discussion between Joomla and PrestaShop as they are very different software's. PrestaShop is the best!
SuperCharlie
I have a business that revolves around creating Joomla websites. I have been doing Joomla for around 4 years, since they rolled out 1.5. I have created ecomm solutions forever it seems like in Joomla, specifically in Virtuemart which is the gold standard for open-source Joomla carts/ecomm. Every time I have done one, it has been tooth and nail to make it work and look like I wanted. The key factor in this is that Joomla is a content management system. It is designed to publish articles. 2.5 improves on that by providing a good ACL system for both admin and user control of content. It is flexible, but its **purpose** is to deliver content. In the same vein, Wordpress' **purpose** is to blog. It is what the application revolves around. With that in mind, I decided to stop trying to fit the square peg in the round hole and use a program who's **purpose** was ecommerce. I did my due diligence and found 2 solutions. PrestaShop and Magento. After weighing the various platforms, I decided to go with PrestaShop. I found it easier to modify, a pretty good support system/forum and a great selection of add-ons. Being a developer I needed something that was reasonably easy to get used to. It has taken me a month or so to get into the code base and be able to work comfortably with PresatShop, specifically with the templates and the look parts. There is no silver bullet for this. There is no perfect system which can fulfill every option of every need of every person/shopper. The key is getting something you have the least headaches with and making sure you can get from where you are to where you need to be as easy as possible. I am happy with my choice and have had a store up now for a couple months which I am happy with. We have processed probably around $3k or so in gross sales, most of which have went pretty smoothly. for me, it is the tool for the job. I would say.. get a test server running on your desktop or at a cheap host, set up a test store in all the various options of Joomla, Wordpress, etc.. and see how easy PS is compared to everything else to get a store with products and a decent look going. Thats how I ended up here Good Luck!
