Website Module Help Please : Smarty 2 / Smarty 3

Hi all, I've been running my website with everything working for some time and using Smarty 2 but have just been told to use a specific module, I need to use Smarty 3.

 

I remember there was a reason for me using Smarty 2 but can anyone look into this and see the reason?

 

I do want to use this module although if it means errors in my website etc, I wouldn't bother.

What is the version of PS you are using? PS has been distributed with Smarty v3 as default for quite a few versions. If you have a pretty old version installed, or if you updated from a version where Smarty v2 was default that may be why you have v2.

There have been some incomptible changes between v2 and v3, (e.g. you theme may be incompatible with it) but it will be pretty easy to notice as it will fail fast, i,e, it will not work in some way. If everything seems to be working, chances are that you should be OK. Also v3 is slightly better in terms of performance.

There is not way to determine why one may want to use v2 instead of v3. If there is a failure with the theme etc, then it is easy to guess but lacking that it would be a guess. You will need to think hard to remember

 

Did the module you bought have v3 listed as a requirement? If so there is not much one can do if you have to use v2. Figure out (if you can) why you used it in the first place then make a choice between the original reason and the module. If v3 was not mentioned as a requirement, you may be able to get a refund if it turns out that using v3 causes other problems.
