Vehicle Year/Make/Model Filter

Recommended Posts

I am building a prestashop website that sales auto (car) parts. I am looking for a filter that filters vehicle year/Make/Model. I have seen a few that filter the ways I like. Please visit the URLs and have a look:

autobulbsdirect.co.uk

http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/

I have also seen an open cart filter, please see here: http://spotonsolutions.net/vehicle-ymm

I am hoping that i will find someone who can direct me to a module that has already been developed for prestashop or someone who can develop this for me.

If you have it contact me or if you wish to develop it, please send me a demo.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but i wanted to warn everyone about vehiclefits.

The module may work on magento, but the port to prestashop does not work at all, and i have not received a working copy of the software, the free installation or anything since paying for the addon.

I have mailed them repeatedly for 2 weeks with no response, and probably no hope of getting my money back.

If anyone is able to tell me which module to use for make/model id really appreciate it, and if this post saves one person from losing their money to vehiclefits then it was worth typing it.

Hey Paul we did email back & forth but I agree I was not prompt in completing the installation. The module does work and I thought I had emailed you asking for your CSV so I could import it for you, apparently I had not. I just emailed you privately about why I was too busy to respond, I also went ahead & refunded your $175, feel free to continue using my software and enjoy free technical support for 1 year. Sorry I was not fast enough in responding to your requests for status updates on the install I have refunded your money in full and you can continue to use the software for free.

The same happened to me. I received a non-working copy and have been emailing and calling for well over a month with no response. I'm looking for other solutions but I can't find any... I may have no choice but to switch platforms after having invested some much time and money on this one.

Anybody please any other options for a vehicle year/make/model filter?

Davide,

Here is a response you sent in the ticket on May 7th where you confirm the software is working but complain its slow:

07 May 2013 03:30 AM

Josh,

Thank you for finally getting to my site and working on finalizing it.

I do notice it's very slow, I mean by just going the home page it takes 10+

seconds.

I went in the admin site I see there's a stable new update from

prestashop. Now I don't know how to go about upgrading without overwriting

your work?

I feel the site was faster when you fixed the lag issue the fist time

around, then after I upgraded it it was never as fast.

I wonder if this upgrade will help the site improve load times?

Let me know.

Thanks,

I respond stating that the 'fix' I put in your autoloader was reverted when you upgraded PrestaShop. You also send another response on May 7th confirming that the slowness was because you had your cache disabled in PrestaShop!

: 07 May 2013 04:00 AM

The site seems faster now, probably because it's late night and low inet

traffic.

I did go in the Admin site and activate cache, it was deactivated.

Do you have a list of hardcoded changes so that I can make sure they are in

place after I upgrade prestashop?

Then on May 14th you inquire about moving the search somewhere else in your template:

14 May 2013 04:30 PM

Josh,

Where are your files?

I want to see if I can change the location of the drop down. Please.

Thanks,

I respond answering your question of where the files are, but ask you to discuss this in a new ticket & stop re-opening the one about the site slowness:

17 May 2013 11:15 PM

Please send a new ticket/email - not reopen old ones. The files are in modules/vaf

Then I hear nothing back from you until June 7th where you start to suddenly claim the filter is not working at all:

07 June 2013 02:10 AM

Josh,

I haven't received a reply from you in over two weeks. I wonder if this is

the end product of your filter?

You posted that reply in the same big ticket, even though I asked you to stop reopening it & start a new ticket.

When you put multiple [unrelated] issues in the same big ticket, it forces me to read through pages & pages of emails, with quoted email history in each post. It also messes up my ability to sort tickets & answer them on a "first-come first-serve basis". Despite this I've tried to continue to help you. The last communication we had, was me answering your question about where the extension's files are stored, and then I got an email back two weeks later complaining you had no response from me, and suddenly claiming "it doesn't work" without elaborating.

To further rebut your claims that I have neglected to provide support, here are some screenshots I took of your website where the extension is currently live & clearly working.

If you actually have an issue, I'd be happy to support it. To expedite receiving the support please do so in a new ticket. Creating a new ticket is as easy as composing a new email to [email protected] (instead of replying to responses I've sent in the past, which reopens old unrelated tickets). In the new ticket please describe what your complaint/issue is specifically, otherwise I'm at a loss of how to help.

After a month of no reply at all from you, this was a super fast response via the Prestashop forum.

You could've responded to at least one of my emails and emphasized on creating a new ticket when you decided to start ignoring my emails and phone calls. I also don't appreciate you dumping screen shots of my website here.

By the way, the May14th emails were actually two, below is Part1. When I realized I wasn't getting the needed support, I asked you where the files were located which is the email you quoted.

Josh,

How do you suggest updating the compatibility database? Directly in the database?

Also, about my previous question about having the drop down menus allow entering text and ajax filter as you type, is this possible?

Once I get this working properly I will look at investing in switching hosting.

In any case, I will go back to hopefully communicating with you via email (new tickets) and see where we can get to with this filter solution for Prestashop.

Didnt expect to get thread notifications on this 3 months later...

dformica, to let you know, we did get our refund, but we got absolutely no help whatsoever when working through the supportcenter programs. But, if you respond on here then you get instant replies - possibly because its public and he wants to look good, possibly because he doesnt check his support center or get any notifications when anything is on there.

I'd still like the functionality on my site, but have essentially given up on it. Vehiclefits still could turn this around, and if it worked as it is meant to then I would happily endorse the product, and pay for it also (which i did suggest after the refund), but I can't possibly net notified abot someone else going for the product and then get the same deal I did and not at least warn people of the pitfalls.

Well I think its fair. You made a public post claiming my software doesn't work, I posted screenshots of the software working on your site simply to refute your claim.

to let you know, we did get our refund, but we got absolutely no help whatsoever when working through the supportcenter programs.

We have been emailing back & forth with maybe 4-5 days average time between responses. As you said, I refunded you in full even though I already installed the software. I effectively provided the service of installing the software to you at no charge. After 4-5 back & forth emails, with 4-5 days in between responses (on your end too!) we have established that the problem you're experiencing is you can't figure out how to add vehicles, I asked you to send me your CSV file so I can import it for you, then we established you have no CSV file of your vehicles. So the issue here is you need to set up a CSV file of vehicles that we can then import. The 'point & click' interface for adding vehicles 1-by-1 is for Magento and not yet ported over to the PrestaShop version of the extension.

You need to create a CSV file like this: http://vehiclefits.com/vf-documentation/import/product_applications.htm

Then we'll import that and users can search by year/make/model.

And to address response times, I have never provided any SLA (service level agreement) guaranteeing certain response times. After 4-years of making this extension full time, I do work a full-time job now... basically because this software is a very niche market, it takes a lot of time & resources to support this software, and I've also become a father. I will continue to provide support for the software, even in your case where I've refunded you in full. I feel I provide great support. When there's a bug in Windows, you can't pick up the phone & call Bill Gates... you can't even email him, let alone get any SLA for support. Sure, maybe I take a few days to respond to your emails or get back to your phone calls, but I never promised anything above that. If someone is on a deadline to get my software installed, sometimes I'll agree that if they purchase I'll have it installed within 24hrs, I always fulfill those promises, however do know that I do NOT provide any SLA for support issues thereafter, unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing.

I'm removing the pictures and closing this thread. Please discuss these matters through PM, the public forum is not the place for this.
