Authentication title field

Is there any way to modify the Title field when a user has to register?

 

Currently there are only two options Mr and Mrs, but I would like this to be a text field so a user can enter more title options, such as Dr, Miss etc.

 

I assume this would mean changing the authentication template but what about the database structure does this need modifying also?

you would have to change some of the core files to interpret what the new values would be. Currently the values are

1=male

2=female

9=unknown (default)
