brucezhan
Excuse me if this is a newbie question, my question is: Can I upgrade Prestashop 1.5 SVN to a final stable version later on (when it released) via the module " 1-Click Update " at BO. Would be any trouble with that? Or should I using the RC version to set up my new online store? Then update to final version from RC. I plan to test in localhost firstly, so, if there's no difference to update from SVN and RC to a final stable version, I would prefer to using the latest SVN, as we know, a lot of bugs have been fixed. then put it online after upgrading to the stable version. Trip
Why not start with the production ready 1.4.8? What do you do if 1.5. stable needs another year to be finished? All SVN versions I have tested are unstable snapshots, sometimes even with more "bugs" or inconsistency than the RC version which was far from perfect. Even if stable version is out you can bet that it will take some time before it is really stable. I am using that 1.4.8 version and they are fixing bugs every day although it is out for about one year. So if you have a difficult or complex shop setup I would not advice your approach unless you have no deadline for your shop or you are an experienced php developer who completely understands what he is doing. brucezhan
Thank you so much for your reply Trip, I'm planning to setup a multiple stores website, that's why considering using 1.5 in the beginning. But I agree with your point, it might take ages when the final stable version come out, and bugs fixed.... cause looking back to the 1.5 RC version, it is also delayed more than half an year as everyone expected... I'll seriously consider your suggestion (using 1.4.8)and talk to my partner about it... Thanks again for your concern. Kind Regards Bruce Edited July 31, 2012 by brucezhan (see edit history)
Trip
Hi Bruce I am desperately waiting for multiple shop too.. unfortunately I had to start another shop instance and share the user database with some sql view magic which is not the optimal solution but I am observing svn success nearly every week and making test upgrades and so on which leads me to my conclusions. After using 1.2.5. for a couple of years I am not to happy with 1.4.8. neither. So I hope they come up with the 1.5 stable soon. From the abilities it is really promising but it seems some serious problems still exist. Maybe PS team or Mike can give us an insight on the roadmap or what they are expecting at the moment? ZenGraph
Dear Trip and others, few days ago a community manager named Patric Codron said into a french topic about new version that 1.5 stable release will be finished for mid august, that sounds amazing but it is an official information. Regards, trip Now you point a very interesting thing : is a stable release really stable and tested like it should be ? we'll se !! I am totally agree with this 1.4.8 (and previous 1.4) that contains too much bugs and strange behaviour, I hope that 1.5 will be smooth and clean, with native commerce options that all shops need (without having to buy many modules). for now my suggestion is : "crossed finguers", wait & see Best Regards

Trip
Thanks for the info ZenGraph. I remember PS team repeatedly announced they will not give any release date until they are sure they know how much time it will need. So let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that the waiting will soon be over ... anyway I would not suggest to start with the svn version because in my opinion to find help if your upgrade from a stable version makes problems is easier than if you start with a broken svn version .
