tcannonxy
I cant login to my backoffice for "security reasons" until i have; delted the /install folder and changed the admin folder name to /admin-whatever. whats the reason? I did change the admin folder name, but i cant find this /install folder anywhere. and if i just search install, there are plenty of folders with install in the name mostly modules. dont have any idea what the folder they want me to delete is. I did have this problem, i screwed up my root directory, and had under the public_html folder a folder titled admin, and under that folder was /admin-************ so I couldnt view the "live version of my website unless I typed nomain.com/admin/admin-******* which was not good. So I contacted my host, to have them help me with my directory. Because I moved the /admin/admin-****** file to be directly under the public_html file. then when i tried to go to the live (domain.com) portion, i got a index error. some problem with a config or whatever idk but they said they fixed it for me. And they move the files, but now i cannot get onto my backoffice. Anyone have any ideas, or encounter this problem before
Mike Kranzler
Hi tcannonxy, This is the intended functionality of PrestaShop. In short, there are more than 120,000 active stores using our solution around the world, every single one of which by default has the admin directory named /admin. If we didn't require our users to change this, anyone with less than strong morals could merely navigate to www.yoursite.com/admin and be one step closer to accessing your private information. The same thing goes for the install directory. If you left that on your site, anyone could merely go to www.yoursite.com/install and completely wipe your site by doing a clean reinstallation right on top of it. For those reasons, you are required to delete the /install directory and rename your /admin directory before you are permitted to access your Back Office. The /install folder should be in the root of your site, just as the /admin folder is/was. Look there for it, once you've deleted it you should be able to access your Back Office. I hope this helps. -Mike
