Back End error after fresh install, on 1.4.8.2 AND 1.4.7.3 (Dreamhost issue?)

I am getting the same error after installs of both versions listed in the title. This is immediately after a fresh install, with no changes having been made at all. Have looked at other threads and tried some basic code modifications but none have worked.

 

The error I am getting is:

Any ideas?

If this is a fresh install and not an update then you need to change the file name of the admin folder to whatever you want (eg: backend). Then go to that link (yoursite.com/backend).

I have done that, deleted install directory, etc.

I have reinstalled multiple times, each time with a fresh database. Have not edited any files. Using Dreamhost. Error differs slightly across browsers:

IE 9 does not show any errors but page loads blank with site name, my username, and link to logout.

For anyone who might be getting the same errors in the future, I switched from PHP 5.2 Fast CGI to PHP 5.3 CGI, and unchecked the box for Page Speed Optimization.
