Incorrect currency showing in PayPal

I am trying to resolve an issue I am having using PayPal and PrestaShop where the currency is showing up incorrectly, or the currency is not being converted on PayPal. I am not sure which it is.

 

I have my store set up to use a default currency of South African Rand and am checking out using the same. When redirected to PayPal the total amount due is showing up on PayPal as a $ amount. An Example is below:

 

Check out with a Rand Amount of R850 for the product and R110 for shipping so a total order of R960. PayPal is selected as the payment method.

 

When redirected to PayPal, the following is shown:

 

• Item total$850.00
  
• 
  Shipping and handling:$110.00
  

• Total $960.00 USD

  
  

 

 

 

 

 

If the payment is processed as a $USD amount, the client will end up paying almost 8.5 times the amount they should for the product.

 

I am hoping this is simply a setting somewhere I need to set, but I am having no luck finding a solution to the problem anywhere or any setting anywhere. I also cannot load Rand as a currency in the PayPal account as it is not one of the options.

Something I must add is that if I change the currency on the store to $ and then check out it is showing up as the correct amount on PayPal in $USD. It only seems to be a problem when checking out using Rand as the currency on the store.

Please note that PayPal only supports 25 currencies. If your store is set up to use South African Rand (which is not a supported currency), there will be no conversion to your default currency. So the total amount due will show up on PayPal as $ amount (or your default currency). Therefore, you should use a supported currency on your store or convert your items' prices to USD.
