[SOLVED] Shop a mess after changing theme

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I am using PS 1.4.7.2 as my default theme but this morning I thought I would try out PS 1.4.5 theme.

I down loaded it using the theme installer and everything went ok. When I made PS 1.4.5 my default theme I noticed that the short description text on the product pages did not fit correctly so I reverted back to my original PS 1.4.7.2.

Unfortunately I now have a mixture of both themes, I assume I have done something wrong but I am not sure what: please have a look here babyskunk.co.uk

Hope you can help

Paul

I would like to thank Bill Dalton, his advice worked perfectly, everything is back to normal after disabling the unwanted modules.

Paul

Hello elpatron,

thank you for your help and sorry it's taken so long to reply.

I did not make a backup because I thought, as the template was a PS accredited one and has had countless 1000s of downloads, all would be ok.

I have done what you have suggested, force complile, cache etc and have also tried on different PCs and mobile android but still the same problem.

I did make one mistake though, I am using PS 1.4.8.2

If you have a solution I would appreciate it.

yours

Paul

I really couldn't even guess at this point. It would probably be fairly simple if one had ftp access to see your files..

there is an old saying....if you can't fallback...then go forward...it seems you original problem with the newer template is small compared to where you are now...

Dear all,

I wonder If anyone has an idea how I can solve this problem,

I appreciate I should have made a back-up before I changed template and, of course, this serves as a warning to all.

But I would really like to know from you learned people out there "what did I do wrong" and how can I correct it so I and others will not make the mistake again.

As always so thankful for yor help

Paul

Paul, the good news is nothing is broken. All that is happened some modules have been turned on and other may have been turned off and possibly repositioned.

To fix it just go to your BO modules and in the Front Office Features section look for modules that are installed. They have a green arrow. Look for names that match what they do. For example a module for a footer will usually use that word in the title. One by one disable modules and see the effect. Some Modules that you need may have been turned off. But first just concentrate on turning off Modules you do not want, then you may turn on modules that you do want.

Finally you will need to deal with where the modules are positioned. You do that by clicking on the Position link that is at the top of the page in the Modules section.

Play around enough and you'll solve this rubik's cube. Or if your time is valuable make a post in the paid help forum and someone will fix fast for very little cash.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I had the same exact problem tonight, didn´t have a backup either, and did exactly what Bill recommended, right after deleting the files included on the themes, and it is almost solved.

However the cart is no longer the same, and I do not have the central-top product image nor the central text. Also, there is a my account section in pink. Check the pic please.

Any clues on how to revert these particular problems????

The only way to revert completely a theme change is using a backup or reinstalling everything???

How can we be sure a ne theme wont cause these issues?

Regards,

Hello sbm,

I do not have the central-top product image nor the central text.

Many homepages use a slider module. If your central text and image did not use a slider than it was most likely Home text editor v1.6 by PrestaShop, A text editor module for your homepage. You'll find it here,

Back Office > Modules > Front Office Features

Turn it on and hopefully your content is still installed, if not you will need to add it. Click its Configure link to edit.

lso, there is a my account section in pink. Check the pic please.

If you check the products in,

Back Office > Catalog

And the products have images, you will need to regenerate your images. Please see,

Back Office > Preferences > Images

Scroll down and click the button Regenerate thumbnails.

You may also need to temporarily turn of cashing, please see,

Back Office > Preferences > Performance

Set Force compile: To Yes

Set Cache: To No

I recommend keeping these two setting until your web site is ready to go live.

Let me know how it go's ...

Hi Bill,

Thanks. The home text editor is back on the front office (it was deactivated as you said).

The "My Account" Block is still in pink, while the template is gray-white. How to change this.

My cart is still not the original one. I see it is version 1.2. Maybe the one in the original template was another version?

Also the tags block, active, is not showing.

Please help.

Thanks a lot,

Steven

The "My Account" Block is still in pink, while the template is gray-white. How to change this.

You are currently logged on to your web site as a customer. When you login as a customer the My Account Block will turn that color to make it more noticeable for your customer. Click on the log out link an the color should change.

My cart is still not the original one. I see it is version 1.2.

When you say version, is 1,2 the version number you see in Back office?

Also the tags block, active, is not showing.

Please go to,

Back Office > Modules > Positions

This will let you see all the many blocks available to you and which modules are installed in each block. You can move modules in 3 ways.

  1. Within each block use the up and down selectors to move modules up or down
  2. At the top of the screen you should also see a Live Edit, that will also allow some movement of modules.
  3. Also at the top of the screen you can click on the link, “Transplant a module”. This will allow you to choose a module and move it to the block you want the module to appear in.

Play around a bit and let me know how you get along.

… now might be a good time to make a backup. <_<

Hi Bill,

Thanks a lot.

-Logged off---the my cart dissapeared -Thanks.

-Shopping cart- Yes, it is version 1.2 in back-office.

-Tags block- It is there, located at the "Header of pages - "....but not visible in the front office.

Again, thanks a lot,

Steven

You might try moving it to the Left column blocks. See if that works better.

That said, you are working with a really old version of Prestashop. If you haven't added too many products yet, you should think about deleting that copy and download the latest version 1.4.8

http://www.prestashop.com/en/download

Start fresh!

You will not find many themes or modules that are compatible with such an old version. Even the help you receive in this forum may not match your old version of Prestashop.

Hi Bill,

It is actually the 1.4.8.2, the last one, but I learned the bad way not all modules/themes work perfectly event if they come from the addons shop :(

I will do all over again, a fresh start....with backups every new step...

Thanks a lot for your help!!!!!
