Problem Installing Presatshop on Fatcow

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I stumbled upon Prestashop an hour ago and I was impressed by the reviews and by the sleek looking sites powered by Prestashop. So I decided to give it a try for my [spam-filter]'s new online store. My host is Fatcow. I downloaded Prestashop 1.1.zip and extracted its content to a folder in my hard drive. I then created a subdirectory in my Fatcow host just like this: http://listonventures.com/purpleshop. The "purpleshop" is the subdirectory I intended to use for my Prestashop install. I uploaded all the files to the "purpleshop" folder via FTP. I also created a database to use for my Prestashop install. After I finished uploading the files, I tried begin installation by going to http://listonventures.com/purpleshop/ but only a blank page is there and not the install page. What is wrong with my set up? I know that Fatcow supports PHP 5. Can you please give some advice? I am really impressed with the Prestashop sites I see and I want to have one myself. But I could not install. Please help.

Update:

Because I really want to install Prestashop now, i tried it with 110MB.com and I was able to install it successfully within 5 minutes, no problem at all. But why couldn't I make it with Fatcow?

I can understand your frustration! I just installed Prestashop on my Fatcow. Here's what I had to do:

1. to complete install, Prestashop wiki says to go to yoursite.com//install
2. i had to chat with fatcow reps and they sent me to yoursite.com/subdirectory/install/index.php
3. create your database (looks like you did)
4. continue following the steps in the install wizard

hope this helps. i'm a wordpress user as well but the Wordpress Ecommerce functionality gave me a headache and I couldn't find any workable themes.

but i did see that there's a WP plugin that pulls your prestashop header and footer to your WP site. gonna try that soon.

Good luck!
