Empty Cart Redirect?

Hi,

 

we're using the Black & White theme and when a customer empties the basket/cart when on the Checkout page the whole one page checkout disappears, there is no 'your cart is empty' warning and so the customer is just left looking at the header and footer with nothing inbetween.

 

Is there any code we can add to redirect to the homepage when the customer empties the cart when on the checkout page?

I'm however not too familar with this and how/where to implement it and the correct code etc.
