cdaverlag
Hi folks, i've got a question concerning the backoffice and managing products. I've got several "physical" products which can only be shipped within Germany and Austria, which works quite fine. But how can i set "download/digital products" to be shipped worldwide and this for free? When i create a shipping-method called "digital products" worldwide, this option is also available in the order progress with physical products. I don't want that... Sorry for my bad english, cheers. Mike Kranzler
Hi cdaverlag, Are you using the "Is this a downloadable product?" option when creating those items in your catalog? If you upload them there, you won't need to worry about shipping costs for the digital products. -Mike
cdaverlag
yes, this option is checked. Yes, shipping is free for downloadable products, thats right so far... .... but this is the problem! in the order process, a user has the option to chose "ship via online-product" also for physical products... Sorry, i think my description is a bit confusing a) i have got physical products, which can only be shipped in austria and germany (no other countries) by fee b ) i have got downloadable products, which can be "shipped" worldwide for free c) if a user choses one physical product to buy, he can opt for "free online shipping" although he shouldn't have this option Edited May 30, 2012 by cdaverlag (see edit history)
Mike Kranzler
Can you please post a link where I can test this out for myself? -Mike

Mike Kranzler
http://www.androidmag.de/shop/ which is in german, sorry for that Don't worry, there's apparently a cafe in Berlin named after my family, so close enough I'm looking at this, but I see that if you add just a single physical product with a German address, you still get free shipping. Have you done anything in your Back Office to specifically configure free shipping? If you've done so, that will likely be the cause of your issue, because you do not need to do anything to set up free shipping for those downloadable products. Anything additional you do only will affect your physical products. -Mike
cdaverlag
okay, i think this is my fault in describing this issue once again, i try my best: - physical products must only be able to be shipped to Austria and Germany (and that even free of charge), and NO other countries, so i defined one carrier for Austria and it's region/zone, and one carrier for germany and its region/zone. Thats fine so far! - but: i want downloadable products to be downloadable/shipped worldwide, so i created a carrier called "Download-Carrier" (as an example) and assigned all other countries to it. - but also physical products in the cart have this carrier as an option, and this is the problem! So also users from America have the option to get physical products via Download-Carrier Edited May 30, 2012 by cdaverlag (see edit history)

Create a user account with a US address 2. Try adding a physical product to the cart and see what shipping options are available Is this correct? -Mike

Mike Kranzler
Going back to what I asked above, have you specifically created this "Online-Abo" shipping option in your Back Office under the Carriers section? -Mike
cdaverlag
Yes i have, see screenshot
Mike Kranzler
Hi cdaverlag, As I mentioned above, that is the cause of your issue. When it comes to digital products, you do not need to create a shipping option, as PrestaShop handles that automatically when you upload the file under "Is this a downloadable product?" in your Back Office Catalog. Please try deleting that carrier and let me know if that resolves your issue. -Mike
cdaverlag
Okay, now this online-carrier disappears in the order process for physical products. Thats good! But what if you want to buy digital products from America, could you try that?
Mike Kranzler
Okay, now this online-carrier disappears in the order process for physical products. Thats good! But what if you want to buy digital products from America, could you try that? As long as you use our "Is this a downloadable product?" option in your Catalog, customers can purchase digital products from anywhere. When payment is processed, your customer automatically receives an email with a link to download the file. No additional configuration required beyond that section. -Mike
cdaverlag
Okay, thats nice! Thanks a lot for that. How can i manage to display all countries in the "login process"? Due to the fact that i've only activated Austria/Germany/Switzerland in the backend at "countries", there are only these 3 available when creating an account/logging in/OPC

However, currently there is not a feature in PrestaShop to restrict certain products to only be shipped to specific countries. -Mike
cdaverlag
okay, now i understand so in my case, people from "anywhere"/worldwide have no chance to buy digital products - that's a pitty - but for physical products it works now at least...
