Product Image Sizing

I have had no success using Preferences/Images in PS 1.4.8.2 resizing the product page main image, using the default theme that installed with PS.

 

I have also tried making a new image category and assigning it to Products, and regenerating either all product images, or all images across the site. No change.

 

I have had no issues altering the Categories image sizes at will, so it is unlikely that in this case, I am not understanding the mechanism to the point where I can't figure out how to use it.

 

I have no desire to hack the templates and such, as I believe doing so will interfere with PS updates/upgrades, and there is no telling what all issues may come of doing so, taking the shine mostly off of using a unified, non-custom solution like PS.

 

I like the simplicity of the default template.

 

Is there a module that can be gotten that does a more effective job of sizing product images, positioning images (a live edit style manager), or both I wonder.

Make sure it is not a caching issue, either PS or browser. After changing the image sizes under Images tab, first regenerate images, then locate /tools/smarty/compile/ directory and delete all files except index.php. Do the same for /img/tmp/ directory.
