How to add "compare product" checkbox on the Product.tpl page?

By default Prestashop has the "compare" check box only on the category list pages.

 

But lots of times a customer will check out the product page, become interested in the product, then want to add it to the side by side comparison. THAT seems like the logical use case.

 

How can I add a "compare" check box onto the Product.tpl template page?
