JuanLaSambuca
Hi guys, Is this something that I have to ask to my hosting provider?
tdr170
You need to get an SSL from your provider but as to weather you need one or not the answer is anytime you take personal and private information from customers you should have your site protected so yes get an SSL certificate. ralphstirrat
I don't have one and use payment modules like Paypal and Moneybookers which are secure, I don't think SSL is crucial for other info, does anyone think otherwise? I'd be in interested to know if people are put off from registering on a site if it's not secure?
bellini13
In the case where the customer is redirected to a remote site for payment collection (paypal), then you would not need an SSL certificate on your site from a customers perspective. However the paypal IPN still comes to your server via an HTTP call, and provides what most people would consider "sensitive" information. In addition, registration of the customer (collecting name, date of birth and address etc...) would be considered "sensitive" information and I would certainly think twice before providing it to a website in a non-secure fashion.
