Can't change themes, or view modules? get partial blank screen

Recommended Posts

Hope somebody can help. I run pretashop on a shared hosting site with no issues. I just installed the latest pretashop on a different site, on my virtual dedicated server. Store is working fine, but I am having problems in the back office.

First, I can't change themes. I bought and installed a new theme, which is compatible with the latest pretashop. But I don't think the theme is the problem. When I click on the theme installer, which I can see on the first screen, I get the following partial blank screen after clicking the link:

blank_themes.jpg

So I thought it might be a permission issue, or something. But while the majority of the BO works fine, if I click on the module tab, I get the same partial blank screen:

If I click on positions, I get the same same blank screen. But if I click on Themes, it does show them (even though I can't change them). If I click on Modules & Themes Catalog, it does let me search just fine, etc.

Any ideas? I have already dropped and reinstalled a fresh program twice already.

Thank you

Robin

I have my own virtual dedicated server with ipower.com.

My other pretashop store, which works fine, is located with power.com too, but it's a shared hosting server.

Far as themes, I manually added the new theme via FTP. It shows up fine in the module/appearance screen. But after selecting the new theme, and hitting "save" I get the above blank screen. I also tried installing another purchased theme, which I use on my other site, and had the same issue.

On a previous post, a few weeks back, somebody with pretashop listed a new theme installer module on this forum for download. I tired that one too, but got same problem.

Theme is mobileworld. I downloaded it off the pretashop website last week.

Just not sure it's the theme, since the theme installer isn't working. I have yet to see the theme installer screen come up. Also I have the issue with my modules. I know it's only the default theme installed, but none of it's modules are showing up in the BO. Same blank screen.

What is the proper permission for these folders and files? I had lots of issues installing the latest version of PS. In order to get past configuration I had to switch everything to 777 (the listed files and/or folders). When I tried 755, it always gave me the red error message. My files in the folders are set at 645. To see if that was the issue, I started switching my theme folder permissions back to 755, but still same problem.

I did delete that module. Dumped my cache and tried it again from Safari, Opera and Firefox. Same problem on the theme, theme installer and module screen.

Have you already confirmed that your VPS meets all of PrestaShop's system requirements? Often, this sort of issue is due to your server's PHP memory limit.

I was going to suggest this as well Mike. Most likely the PHP memory needs to be increased or he can delete all modules that will not be used to free up some memory. I've had this to work several times too.

Here is where I am on this issue..... The php memory was set at 32M and the file upload to 2. So i updated the memory to 64M and the file upload size to 10M. After I updated the php.ini file, I restarted my apache server from plesk. Unfortunately I still have the same problem with blank screens on the theme installer, and module main page in BO.

Where is the code that shows which theme is being used? Perhaps I can manually turn the new theme on. But I still have the problem of my modules not showing up in the BO. Pretty weird, since they seem to be working fine in the default theme store. I just can't access them in the BO, to edit them, etc.

All other functions of my server seem to be fine. Ipower does a pretty good job of keeping all php, mysql, current.

I will try deleting some unused modules tomorrow. WIll try to free up more room.

May of found the issue. I just assumed my VPS was constantly updated. But I found this in my plesk control panel:

mysql 4.1.20-1.FC4.1

php 5.0.4-10.5.1.swsoft

So both are not up to date. I will try to figure out how to update them and will try again tomorrow. Hopefully that is the issue, and there is an easy way to update my VPS.
