Invalid characters in product name

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'd really like to use Prestashop for my online store, except there's one big but small problem: I need to use the # (hash) character in my product labels! Using a hash in the label tells me "Invalid characters". I've searched the forums and I've found that it's because it cannot use a # in the URL rewriting.

Many other shopping cart software packages out there just strip certain characters from the URL rewrite string, including the hash # and parens ( ).

Has anyone else encountered this issue? How have you gotten around it?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Gabby,

I'm completely unsure why they can't just strip or encode those characters, but being that they don't, my only recommendation would be to use another character that looks like a hash mark in the product name. The "not equal" character ≠ could be a suitable substitute. I've tested that you can have a notequal in the product name.

I really hope the # could be able to put in the product name.. I was thinking to put NO. instead of # sign, however, No. made the product names too long, that I dont like it. So, is this cannot solve at all? :(
