Shipping problem with courier and postal rates.

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with shipping calculations. I have the Australia Post module installed and this automatically calculates the combined weight of items up to 20g for a particular location in Australia. However, I also have a flat rate charge by 'private courier' that is used for our larger items (we are talking from 20kg up to 200kg + per item). At present I only have one flat rate set-up as PrestaShop has difficulty in this area - more work by developers on this area is an obvious request.

The problem I have is that when a client chooses an item whose freight is calculated by Australia Post and then chooses one of the 'flat rate' items, I loose the Australia Post freight cost. The way PrestaShop is going about this is logically correct by bundling the two together but the items in fact would be sent by different freighting methods; post and courier.

How do I get PrestaShop to delineate between the two types of items for correct shipping calculation? Also, how do I get it to do multiples of the flat rate depending on the quantity of flat rate products added to the cart?

Here's my store if you would like to have a play around.

Im sorry i don't have any information to help you, as im new to using prestashop and yet to get my store online. I noticed you mentioned you use the Australian post module. Did you purchase this module? and do you think it would be suitable for an online clothing retailer who wouldnt be posting more than 20kg? Its hard to decide on whether to splash out for a module without knowing if it has everything included to calculate postal costs. Also, did you have to enter every single postal code in Australia to distinguish between state zones? (example NSW N1 N2 V2 )

Thanks in advance for your time.
