pubguv
Hi, I've been having problems with my shop returning 500 internal server errors and have contacted my hosting company to resolve the issue. Today they responded with: Thank you for contacting 123-reg on the 16th April 2012 and thanks for your patience. I can confirm that this issue may be caused by a php memory issue. It appears that the memory on the server for your website, times out when generating your XML file or regenerating your thumbnails. The best solution for this issue is to use a server with dedicated memory like a VPS or Dedicated server; I have their Business Linux Hosting Package on a shared server, details can be seen on their website https://www.123-reg.co.uk/web-hosting/comparisonpage.shtml#info I feel as if they are trying to extract more money from me when the issue is obviously with their server. Your thoughts? Jay
tomerg3
Check out http://www.presto-ch...ixing-error-500 for more info + common fixes for error 500. Most proper hosting companies offer 64MB ram on a shared host, if you have less, PS will not work properly.

Mike Kranzler
Hi Jay, If you're looking for a hosting provider better suited to PrestaShop, I would recommend that you try one of the options listed at the bottom of the page under "Choose a Hosting" here. I personally recommend HostGator because even their support team is well versed on our software, but if you sign up using any of the direct links on that page, you'll get a special PrestaShop rate for your hosting solution. -Mike

pubguv
I've signed up with Vidahost, they offer a free migration service so my shop should be up and running again later tonight. I'll report back to the forum on how the migration went. Jay
pubguv
An effortless migration to my new host Vidahost, their tech team moved all my files and imported my db all that was left for me to do was change the nameservers. I doubt anyone noticed the switch. I now have a googlebase xml feed and no 500 server error. I'll tackle regenerating images tomorrow. Jay

pubguv
Thanks for the update pubguv! Let us know how everything works out in the very end! -Mike Well, I'm getting there, I have been able to regenerate most images except categories which keeps throwing up a "Cannot writecategoriesimages" error, which is odd as all the image directories have the same permissions. Friendly URLs just won't work, but I'll post on that in the right sub-forum. Apart from those two issues everything is Honky Dory, it's nice to have a hosting Co with customer service. El Patron
think the important support for new sites or those moving from another 'shared' hosting account is that their hosting space support: 1. Browser cache https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/best-practices/caching#LeverageBrowserCaching 2. Site compression https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/best-practices/payload#GzipCompression Typically (1) is not supported, else none of us would have needed to upgrade to vps or privates. (2) is a must and if they don't support it...find another...
Dh42
I realized there is a paid preferred hosting list. But a list of hosts whose servers are defaultly configured to work with PS might be good.
