mowax
Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere in the forum but I couldn' find anything about it. Which approach is best for SEO? Fewer products with many size variations, or many separate product pages for each each size? I'm sure it is better practice to make fewer product pages with many variations, but I have heard that sites with a high number of pages are seen as more important by google. If you can avoid duplicating content and meta information, and you can do it with discretion (without make browsing too difficult), might making separate pages for each size be a good idea? Would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts as I realised I don't have a proper strategy in place for this at the moment.
justdogwalking.com
Hi I have same question - I am using combinations rather than a page per product. Can anyone offer a view?

noesac
I would say one product with multiple variations is better, more practical. Google punishes for duplicate content...are you going to want to write a different description 10 different times for each colour?
mowax
Colours I agree should be variations, I was thinking more in terms of sizes, lengths or any attribute that affects price. For certain products I can see some of my customers enter size or length into google before they land on my pages.
noesac
I think it depends on a number of factors. For example an 8 gig iphone is basically the same as 16gig one, just differing sizes, but there are only 3 models so it doesn't hurt to have them separate. Or maybe the size is actually built into the name of the product, for example "Galaxy Tab 10.1" Where "10.1" isn't just an attribute of the product, it's actually in the name. I guess there's many things like this to consider. Ultimately it's a trade off in practicality. Yes it's probably better to be more targeted but it would be hell to run queries, maintain the product, write multiple descriptions etc. I don't think there's a one size fits all type of rule. Evaluate each product one by one and do what makes the most sense for each of them.
