pubguv
Hi, a question to the Prestashop bods. I've installed the ksicecat mod and mailed the developer with my details, shop url, server ip etc and asked for it to be activated. I had a mail today saying that the mod was now activated and to test it. I mailed the developer back to say I was still getting the "this is a demo" message He replied that the mod only works on a fixed ip and mine was dynamic - I'm puzzled, can anyone explain? Cheers Jay
Dh42
2 things. I do not really care how trusted the developer is I would not use a module that required activation like that. It is either being accessed remotely by there server and has write privileges on your machine or it makes a call to their server to check validation before running. Either or is considered a security risk. It is also bad practice to make modules like that. On a second note, most shop's have static ip addresses because of the ssl certificates. You pay a little more typically $20 a year for it, but what you spend on that front you save by not having to buy a wildcard ssl certificate.
pubguv
Many thanks for the reply. Looks like KSIcecat is a no no then... I'll look into getting ssl for my shop.

pubguv
See here for the difference between a static and dynamic IP assignment Thanks. I was puzzled because the developer had asked for my shop ip address, which is is fixed? Then stated that my ip address is dynamic, I could only think he was refering to my isp assinged ip address, I don't see why this would make a difference as all transactions would be between my hosted server(fixed ip), OpenIcecat and KSIcecat and not the kit sitting on my desk. phrasespot
I was puzzled because the developer had asked for my shop ip address, which is is fixed?More than likely. A dynamic IP could be used for a website (e.g. dynadns etc) but almost all hosting companies will give you a static IP, even if it is shared by many other websites. Easy to confirm one way or the other. Post your shop's domain name. But please do everyone a favor and edit your original post to change thread subject to something related to discussion.

phrasespot
Your IP is 94.136.41.48. I don't know why module dev thinks it is a dynamic IP but it is not. Best thing would be to contact her/him and ask.

I went with the WASATO Wicecat mod in the end, its a paid mod and works ok. You can read a thread here about it. http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/165537-icecat-integration/page__pid__806805#entry806805 Regards Jay
