1.4.7.1+ not properly GZIPed / running eTags?

Okay, I'm going nuts and need some help here.

 

My host (great hosts by the way, tech support is always within 3 minutes, even if it's a note to say we're looking into it, which is the case here) ASmallOrange is working on this on their end to see if it's something to do with the server, but I wanted to see if there's something in Prestashop that might be preventing the server from sending the right headers.

 

No modifications to the .htaccess generator, have optimization and friendly URLs checked. the .htaccess file reads thusly:

and yet, when you check the headers on http://noblepagan.net, there's no Content-Encoding: gzip header. When you check with ySlow I'm being told to use eTags and gzip compression.

According to ASO mod_deflate is compiled and available at my level of hosting. As I said, they are looking into it on their end as well, but I'm hoping perhaps the community here has a few thoughts.

Etags are working, compression not.

 

Make sure files types are associed e.g.

 

AddType text/html .html

... etc

 

Make absolutely sure mod_deflate is available. Easiest way is to change .htaccess to remove <IfModule mod_deflate.c> and </IfModule> surrounding deflate settings and you wlll get a 500 response for requests if mod_deflate is not available.

 

Or issue the command "httpd -M" on console and check the output for deflate_module line.

 

It may also be the case that headers are removed at a later processing stage, this would need access to server to determine however.
