uelsimon
Is this possible? 1. Use Case: Person has a poor internet connection, which cannot maintain itself long enough to download our product (e.g. video file), is there a way/module/addon which will allow for the customer to resume their download at a later point? 2. Possibly continuing to resume download until they finally complete the download? Thanks for your replies. €
phrasespot
You could a) not place limits on download count * encourage users to use a download manager (there are several freely available) * While we are on the subject (and this is not directed at you) I don't know for what purpose some merchants place download count limits other than for alienating the customer anyway. Once the customer downloads the item unlimited copies could be made locally, so why not just allow them unlimited downloads.
uelsimon
@Phrasespot Thanks for the response. - a) Limits is not really the issue... its more about ensuring they can resume the download across multiple sessions, without having the restart the download from byte 0. - b ) Yes, this is actually probably the right answer. Do you know any off hand that are really good with integrating with PS? (I'm assuming there is no download manager module/addon based on your response) -* I think in most cases, the download count limit is usually set as a deterrent for people to share the download link. While you are correct it is possible to duplicate the file locally, I think the limits are meant as a deterrent as sometimes the extra steps required to copy and share the file actually reduce the likelihood that many users will do it. phrasespot
- b ) Yes, this is actually probably the right answer. Do you know any off hand that are really good with integrating with PS? (I'm assuming there is no download manager module/addon based on your response) IMHO, making a DLM module for PrestaShop would be absurd as it would be unreasonable to expect web users to use/become familiar with a different download manager for each site they may be downloading files from. Instead a run-of-the-mill DLM, either installed as a separate program, or a browser add-on should be encouraged. Not affiliated with either, I use FlashGet (standalone) and DownThemAll! (Firefox add-on) I think in most cases, the download count limit is usually set as a deterrent for people to share the download link. While you are correct it is possible to duplicate the file locally, I think the limits are meant as a deterrent as sometimes the extra steps required to copy and share the file actually reduce the likelihood that many users will do it. I disagree (not with you, but with the logic of the merchant who is trying to stop sharing the dl link). To be able to allow others to download using the link, one would also have to share the username and password to the account (and implicitly sharing all other personal/payment/purchase history). Anyone who would be willing to do that will not be deterred by the extra steps to make a copy locally and upload to a file share/tracker. Sharers will share, regardless. Measure just alienates the honest customers.
phrasespot
BTW, I'm assuming there is no download manager module/addon based on your response I don't know if such a module exists
