juanignaciosl
I'd like testing an existing shop with the brand new release of Prestashop 1.5 Beta. How can I upgrade? Is there any migration tool? Thanks!
OC2PS
You do realize that this being Beta and all, you shouldn't upgrade the production store, right? Ok, then, you say you want to test, and I assume you have a test install of the old version. The procedure to upgrade to 1.5 Beta is not different from http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/137315-upgrading-to-1451-frequently-asked-questions/ (read manual upgrade guidelines). There is no migration tool to go from a release to a Beta
juanignaciosl
Thank you for your help! I know it's beta, but multistore is a must for us right now, and we'd like to begin working with it asap. At least testing it.
djury
I have created a dev copy of my existing shop (files and database for PS v.1.4.7), changed the base url and db settings in setings.inc.php, and it runs fine. I then tried to migrate to 1.5 on this dev version by following the instructions at http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/137315-upgrading-to-1451-frequently-asked-questions/ The problem is that when I point my browser to .../dev/install it only runs the Install Wizard, and there is no option to Upgrade. Because it's trying to install and not upgrade, I'm getting the error on the database configuration section of the wizard "At least one table with same prefix was already found, please change your prefix or drop your database" Is there really any way to migrate from 1.4.7 to 1.5.09, please? I would really like to test this new dev version so I can start working on a few theme changes, etc.
Trip
Hello, the problem is, when PS Team will make the upgrade option available everyone will start doing it running into a lot problems, broken modules etc.pp. .. This will lead to a lot of confusion and unnessesary bug reports. Some will upgrade their live shops ignoring the warnings and then have a bugged version unable to properly keep it up to date. I understand that many people want to test it with their real products but in the end, the risk is higher than the benefit I assume. Even there might be changes to the template so starting now is really not a good idea. Regards, trip
djury
Hi Trip, Good point, well made. I guess that in the very near future the development team will want us to check migrations, but untill then I'll keep working with a new copy of the SVN. blueinferno2001
Hi, there's something I'd like to ask here.. Reading the posts above, I know that I shouldn't apply the current beta version for a live store. However, is it possible for me to just enter the products using 1.4.7 and then having them migrated to 1.5 easily when it's released? I haven't used prestashop before and I plan on having 1.5 for my first live store. There are lots of products to be entered and it'll be wonderful if I can save time while waiting for 1.5 to be released. thank you
Trip
Hi blue, yes, this should not be a problem. Unless you don't need some of the new features like multistore, stock management etc. there is no reason why not just start with 1.4.7. and in the end upgrading should not be that big issue. Regards, trip

Promokit
From here: "it is highly advisable not to adapt a 1.4 theme to PrestaShop, but rather start with the default theme and adapt your HTML and CSS files to it. This way, you will ensure that all the new features from PrestaShop 1.5 will be included in your theme out of the box."
