Using V1.4.7

 

I want to give third item 1/2 price.

 

All items must belong to the same category.

 

For example if they buy 3 tops they will get the third top for ½ price, but if they buy 2 tops and 1 pant they don’t get the discount, because “pants” are not part of the tops category.

 

Can I do this with the default cart tools?

You can do that using the quantity discounts (prices tab in the product editor), and use the following (free) module to apply it to the entire pants category http://www.prestashop.com/forums/index.php?/topic/140803-module-category-quantity-discount-apply-quantity-discounts-across-all-products-in-a-category/

 

You may have to modify it a bit if you want to specify multiple categories, but have the quantities to only sum per category, rather than per all the categories.

 

There may be other paid modules in the addons store of the forum that can also do this.

My Maxi-Promos module answer your need.

 

You can configure several kind of rules.

In particular, a rule like "for 3 products bought in a given category, the less costly is 50% OFF".

You can also decide to have only 1 product with 50% off, of one every 3 products (2 at 50% for 6, 3 for 9, 4 for 12....)
