rushsoccer
I'm not sure if it's a database problem but whenever I try to enter: New categories New attributes / groups Some new pictures / items I get no errors, the confirmations say "Created successfully" but then they are nowhere to be found. I need to get my new site up but I can't even enter new categories - help please
Dh42
Did you look in the database to see if it was creating the new entries and they just are not linking back to the shop?
rushsoccer
Do you know how I check that? Sorry I am new to this.
tomerg3
Go to your cpanel and look for phpMyAdmin. Click on your DB name and browse the ps_category & ps_category_lang tables, you can order them by id_category in Desc order, which will show the last category added at the top. rushsoccer
Thank you! It looks like they are in the database - why wouldn't they be appearing on the front end, I guess is the problem now?
tomerg3
Hard to say, as you did not give any real info about your site. What version of PS are you using? Post a link to your site. Post a screenshot of the BO category structure, specifically of a category that exists there and is not showing in the Front Office.
rushsoccer
Well now it's saying "Link to database cannot be established." ?? Grr. Website link is http://rushtravel.org/shoprush. I host with GoDaddy. I know I am using an old version of PrestaShop but that's because the template I use isn't compatible with the new version (or so I was told.) Let me know what other info I can provide to help the process along. I would give screenshots but I can't log in.
tomerg3
That means your DB is down, contact goddady and ask them to check it out, or move to a real host instead (goddady is one of the worse hosts I ever had the displeasure of working with). rushsoccer
My hosting expires 5/5 - i will evaluate other options! Okay I finally figured it out, I had to update the password in the settings file. Where did we leave off - database is accepting entries but not publishing them to the front end. What more do I need to provide to continue troubleshooting?? Thanks for helping btw!

rushsoccer
Sorry about that. Attached are a few screenshots - one of the database that shows "African Items" several times, one of the category structure sans those African categories, and another of the category structure as viewed when you create a new product. The only place these new categories show up is in the database.
tomerg3
Hmm, this is very odd, try turning off all the cache options in Preferences->Performance. Not sure what else it could be,
rushsoccer
Hmmm well that seemed to work?! Does that mean I should leave caching off all the time?
tomerg3
You can turn it on again and see, it should be fine, but you may need to "reset" it after updating categories. or upgrade PS
