mikerajjers
First of all I'd like to say hello....Hello! Right, I have downloaded and installed prestashop approx. 4 months ago to have a play around...www.indigocamel.co.uk. Recently I have been spending more time and am ready to build my online store. The site I have is incredibly slow...I think it may be down to my host www.123-reg.co.uk. So, please could you simply tell me which host to use for my prestashop? I am not very technically minded, though am fairly confident trying things...(I did manage to install the shop! ). Basically, I want fast servers so that my site loads super-quick! I am not sure how pricing works, but don't want to save money at the expense of a slow site. Please help If you have any other tips for a complete novice like me then I'm all ears.... Thanks
theme_designer
Here are some advices for improving your loading speed for prestashop. - create an index.html and upload it via FTP and check if it loads fast (if it is loading much faster the prestashop CMS is actually loading slow and there is nothing wrong with your web host) - delete your prestashop website (already installed) and install it via “CPanel” who has an option called “Quick Install”. To delete the files faster, click on “File Manager” and from there with the “shift” key select all the files and folders and click on the “delete” icon. Then go back and install a new fresh Prestashop CMS, it takes 10 seconds – 30 seconds. - enable cache mode for Prestashop: go into tools/smarty/ and open Smarty.class.php Search for “var $compile_check = true;” and replace it with “var $compile_check = false;” Also: “var $caching = 0;” replace it with “var $caching = 1;”
OC2PS
Tough question. Usually quite controversial. Anything on The Endurance International Group, Inc datacenters - avoid like the plague. Ping a domain hosted with the host you are checking out, and you will get the IP address. Run a whois on the IP, e.g. http://whois.arin.ne...T-66-96-128-0-1 and you should be able to see the name of organization. GoDaddy is quite popular, but not very good. In general, be wary of shared hosting accounts that offer unlimited everything. There are no free lunches. If you have some money to spare, then for $230 or so you could get magaged service cloud hosting with 1GB RAM, 40GB space at Rackspace http://www.rackspace...ervers/pricing/ If a bit tight on the dough, you can get a good managed virtual server for $50/mo or so elsewhere. If all you can afford is $5-10 per month, then you are stuck with shared hosting, which is okay for tiny operations, but will not scale well. Be careful, and read the fine print before you cough out the dosh.
