PrestaShop uses language-region (2 chars + 1 char + 2 chars, hence the field width 5 chars)

 

Region subtag is defined by ISO3166 and in particular ISO 3166-1 alpha-2. Language subtag is from ISO 639-1. There is no established standard for identifying script (or variant) of a language. The document you link refers to IETF's BCP47 and BCP stands for Best Current Practices, not a standard. If you think this should be a feature of PS open an improvement ticket.
