SOLVED - Help needed with Presta 1.4.7 problem.

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Please can you help a nearly bald guy from going completely bald.

I am building a shop using 1.4.7.

I added a phone number and a skype button to my home page but they were in the wrong place, so I went back into my header.tpl file and deleted them. I then did force compile etc.

When I went back to my shop they are still there. I went back to my header.tpl files and they have gone, Two weeks on I still cannot find where these codes are.

If I use google elements I cannot see how it helps to tell me exactly where these codes are to find and delete them.

Please can anybody tell me how or where these 2 pieces of information are so I can remove them.

here's really hoping somebody can help me

Hi Hippooflove,

First of all, there's no shame in losing some hair. I'm much younger and already have been starting to lose it for a couple years :P

As for your issue, elpatron's suggestion is a good one. I know you've experimented with a couple different themes in the past, so please make sure you are editing the files for the right one, or else the changes won't be reflected on your site.

If this is not the case though, please let us know and we will be happy to look into alternative suggestions.

Thanks Mike and Elpatron

I only have the one theme installed as this a new store. Its the new Presta theme.

I always change the Force compile when I make any alterations.

I would like to know where these codes are in my files.

Is there any way to find out. I feel that I have trolled through them all a few times already and cannot find these lines.

Hi Barry,

Without seeing your specific files I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but I can recommend a piece of software that I use all the time for these sorts of issues. Check out Eclipse, which will allow you to search each individual file for a specific string using a single command. If you're ever looking for a specific piece of code but don't know where it is located, this is my personal go-to piece of software for finding it.

I hope this helps.

Morning Mike

I tried to use that program but I am not technically minded enough to use it.

I have now been through all the tpl files in the Theme and there is no sign of any of these lines.

I did have a few problems removing another line a couple of weeks ago and wondered in there could be an issue with the force compile /cache.

Your thoughts would be appreciated as there is no point spending anymore time building the store if it is not going to function properly.

In your back-office in preferences/performances I set Force Compilation to YES and Cache to NO. This way the pages had to be compiled again and so it removed the "call me" button that was left in the cache.

It is like removing a temporary file still containing a previous version of your page.

Is it clearer this way? :)
