Problem with paypal. Worked fine and now not logging orders?

Hi,

I've been running my shop for 3 months without a problem.

Tonight I have noticed that when customers pay with paypal there is no confirmation email sent, and the order is not logged in the admin area. I still get a confirmation from paypal that they have paid though.

I tested cheque payment and that works fine. It produces an email for an invoice and it is viewable in the admin area.

I did some more tests, paying myself with a different paypal address and I get the paypal confirmation and payment, but there is no record in the admin area, the cart in the user area also has no record of the sale..

I am at a loss to explain why it has suddenly stopped working. I have done no updates to the shop.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Bizzarely, about 2 hours later the emails started to arrive.

Some have payment errors, and they are out of order but they are now showing in the admin end too.

Anyone have any idea why this might be, and if it's avoidable?

Sounds like paypal IPN not working up to speed, this happens now and again.
