error on import (it has worked in the past)

im getting a strange error when trying to import can anyone help?

 

The following field is invalid according to the validate method isGenericName:

(Product->meta_description = Buy Firstlight 1051BK Sign Light 9 Reflector for £64.74 With FREE delivery for language 1

 

but if i take the pound sign out it will work ( im using £ as £ comes up as a question mark in a box and wont import eaither)
